
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska continued to gain jobs in December as it continues to rebound from the pandemic.
Karienne Wiebold, an economist with the Research and Analysis Unit of the State Department of Labor and Workforce Development, said there were 8,000 more jobs, an increase of 2 point 7 percent, but the number is still 12,400 below the same month in 2019 at the beginning of the pandemic.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly in December to 5 point 7 percent.
Juneau has the lowest unemployment rate in the state while the Kusilvak Census Area in Western Alaska was the highest at 16 point 2 percent. Skagway was the second-highest at 14 point 3 percent.
The rate in Anchorage last month was 4 point 8 and 4 point 5 in Fairbanks.
Ketchikan came in at 5 point 8; Sitka at 3 point 9, Haines at 10 point 5, and the Hoonah Angoon Census Area at 9 point 6.
