Another one-day record in Alaska COVID-19 cases

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Sunday report showed 93 new resident cases and 23 new non-resident cases of COVID-19.

The report showed three new resident cases in Juneau.  The community has had 51 resident and six non-resident cases during the pandemic.

The state total rose to 1,479 of residents, and 295 of non-residents Sunday.

The report listed 615 patients as recovered, 847 active cases, and 86 total hospitalizations.  There are 27 people currently hospitalized.

The report went on to show that the active cases have increased from 560 one week ago.

The number of people with COVID-19 continues to grow in younger age groups in the state.  The report showed 22.85 percent were between the ages of 20 and 29, and 19 percent were between the ages of 30 and 39.

Testing continues to expand with 62,132 done by hospitals, 55,207 in public health labs, and 28,137 in commercial labs, a total of 145,475 tests.

34 new resident cases were confirmed in the Anchorage area, eight on the Kenai Peninsula, three in Kenai and four in Soldotna, 19 in Fairbanks, two in North Pole, four in Cordova, six in the Yukon Koyukuk area, seven in Palmer, four in Wasilla, and three in Nome.

The report showed no new non-resident cases in Southeast Alaska.
