CBJ reports 11 new COVID-19 cases on Friday

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting 11 new Juneau residents with COVID-19.

Public Health is attributing four of the cases to community spread, four to secondary transmission, and three cases are under investigation.

Of the 11 total cases, two are associated with bar activity (one community spread and one secondary transmission) and two others are individuals who were out of state while infected and have since recovered and returned to Juneau (both secondary).

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 230 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 98 nonresidents. Combined, there are 40 active cases in Juneau and 287 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

There are currently three people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

CBJ’s numbers – on cumulative case counts, and active and recovered cases – differ from the Alaska Health and Social Services dashboard numbers due to more timely reporting. CBJ is in regular contact with the Public Health officials in Juneau, and CBJ’s numbers are based on information received directly from them.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 97 new people with COVID-19 – 89 are residents, and eight are nonresidents. Alaska has had 6,113 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 911 nonresidents.

CBJ has also stood up a temporary drive-thru testing facility outside Centennial Hall through Sunday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to test people who’ve recently socialized at a Juneau bar. Walk-ups will be accommodated. No appointment is necessary; people can just show up.
