Names of JPD officers involved in shooting disclosed, suspect identified

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Police officers involved in the shooting of a suspect on the morning of August 4 are identified as Hannah Malone and Thomas McGrann.

Officer Malone has worked for JPD since January 2015. Officer Malone worked as a Corrections Officer for two years at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, and she was a United States Marine for four years that included a tour of duty in Iraq.

Officer McGrann has worked for the department since July 2016. McGrann worked as a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years for the Cumberland County Sheriff Department in North Carolina, and as a Military Police Officer with the United States Army for 6 and a half years.

The man they shot has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher Netling of Juneau who was medivaced to Seattle for treatment.  

The criminal investigation was submitted to the Juneau District Attorney’s Office. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued August 9 for Netling on one count of Assault 2nd Degree Domestic Violence and one count of Assault 3rd Degree on a Police Officer.

Bail has been set at $20,000.

The officer use of force review is being evaluated by the State Office of Special Prosecution.
