Crimson Bears Softball Girls Tame Wolves

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé sophomore Chloe Casperson hit a ground ball scoring classmate Kiah Yadao in the sixth inning and the Crimson Bears earned a 6-5 win over the Sitka Wolves at Melvin Park Field on Thursday.

      JDHS scored the first run of the game on a lead off bunt by junior Mariah Schauwecker who then stole second and third and was hit in by classmate Anna Dale.

      Sitka scored five runs in the top of the second inning. Dalila Callahan, Kaelynn Balovich, Harlee Nelson, Adriana Denkinger and Macee Steinson all crossed the plate.

      JDHS scored two runs in the bottom of the third as sophomore Tristan Oliva singled in Schauwecker and Dale, and tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as junior Zoey Billings scored on an error and Casperson singled in junior Gloria Bixby.

      Schauwecker went 3-3 with two runs scored and earned a walk to lead the Crimson Bears. Oliva had two runs batted in, Dale and Casperson one apiece. Dale, Oliva, Billings, sophomore Kiah Yadao, Casperson and Bixby had one hit each. Dale, Billings, Yadao and Bixby scored one run each.

      Schauwecker started in the circle for 2.1 innings, allowed three hits and five runs, and struck out three batters. Sophomore Mila Hargrave relieved for 2.2 innings, allowed two hits and struck out three and Yadao went two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

      Sitka’s Kaya Balovich went two innings, allowed four hits and three runs, and struck out one. Callahan relieved for four innings, allowed two hits and three runs, and struck out three.

      Steinson went 2-4 with one run scored to lead the Wolves. Kaleena Tucker, Nelson, Lei’a Daly, and Denkinger had one RBI each.

      JDHS improves to 3-4 in the SEC while Sitka falls to 0-7.

      TMHS (6-1) defeated Ketchikan (5-2) by the score of 4-2 on Thursday at Dimond Park Fields.

      All four Southeast Region V softball teams will be in action over the weekend.

      Today’s games: 

    7 p.m. JDHS Varsity vs Ketchikan at MPF (JV 5 p.m.).

    7 p.m. TMHS Varsity vs Sitka at DPF (JV 5 p.m.).

      Saturday Games: 

    10 a.m. JDHS Varsity vs Sitka at MPF.

    10 a.m. TMHS Varsity vs Ketchikan at DPF (JV 8 a.m.).

    1:30 p.m. TMHS Varsity vs Sitka (JV 3:30 p.m.).

    5 p.m. JDHS Varsity vs Ketchikan (JV 2:30 p.m.).

      Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears and Thunder Mountain High School Falcons softball teams lost their opening games at the Southeast Region V Championships in Ketchikan on Wednesday and will face each other in an elimination game today, while the Crimson Bears baseball team put the Falcons sandlot boys into an elimination game as well.
