Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - One of Juneau’s all-encompassing running races is set for Saturday. The Eaglecrest Road Race has options for all abilities to toe the starting line.
The Eaglecrest Road Race features a 10-, five- or one-mile run.
The five-mile race starts a half-mile up Fish Creek Road and runs up the paved road to the Eaglecrest ski area parking lot for an elevation gain of roughly 1,200 vertical feet.
The 10-mile race continues past the parking lot on the summer road, the ski area service road and up to the summit to the Eagles’ Nest, about 2,600 feet ascent. It returns to the parking lot. The upper portion of the course has snow so runners may wish to bring traction devices or cleats and poles for stability.
The one-mile race starts at the parking lot and is a half-mile out and back on the summer road.
Interested participants can register online at southeastroadrunners.org. There also will be race-day registration, starting at 8:30 a.m. at .5 mile Eaglecrest Road.
Cost for entry is $20 for adults and $10 for youth. All proceeds benefit the Juneau Ski Club.
The long course male record is one hour seven minutes and 21 seconds set by Anchorage’s Allan Spangler in 2017. Joshua Musson was less than a minute behind.
Shawn Miller dueled Spangler in 2018 but fell by three minutes, 1:11:21 to 1:14:51.
Riley Moser has hit 1:09:12 and Bryan Hitchcock 1:13:10. Franklin Dekker, Scott Forbes, Matt Callahan, Nate Smith, Jesse Stringer, John Bursell, Aidan Vasquez, Cory Chapman, Brian Laurent and Justin Dorn have all run the long course under 1:25:00.
