    The High Heat Club will be holding their million dollar Hole In One best ball fundraising golf event on Saturday, June 19, at the Mendenhall Golf Course.

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau’s High Heat Club has started their Hole In One registration for a chance at putting in a million dollar golf shot on the Mendenhall Golf Course.

      The event is a fundraiser for the Thunder Mountain boys baseball team.

      Falcons coach Joe Tompkins said he has seen a hole in one on the course.

      “I have witnessed, and I have been on the course, with three golf people that I know personally who have hit hole in ones,” Tompkins said. “My sister hit a hole in one with a three wood. And I was on the course when she did it. It is probably the second farthest driving club there is.”

      The Best Ball Scramble scenario includes many prizes, including two of the million dollar shootouts, and another for 25 thousand dollars.

      The Hole In One event is on Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course.

      The deadline to enter is June 16.

      Interested parties can sign up at the Mendenhall Golf Club or call 907-209-9925 or email [email protected].

      Entries are limited to only 18 teams. The cost is $300 per team of four. Your team will play as a group and the best ball from your group is scored.

      Registration includes green fees and an entry gift.

      The odds to hit a hole in one, also known as an ace, are 12,500 to one, according to a professional golf site. The odds for a professional golfer to strike a hole in one are 2,500 to one.

      The ball must be struck from the tee and land in the cup. It cannot be a ball hit from the tee following a lost ball, after landing on the course or in a water hazard, sand trap, or muskeg pond, etc.

      The best bet is to take a full swing and aim high.

      To be a good golfer Tompkins said it takes a lot of repetition and a will to win.

      “I don’t know. If I was to become a good golfer that is what I would  think it takes,” he said. “That hole in one might take a little more luck though.”

    • Sitka Tribe CARES Act Housing & Temporary Shelter Assistance

      The Sitka Tribe of Alaska is pleased to offer Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act need based assistance for Tribal Citizen/ AK Native or American Indian Sitka community households impacted by the COVID pandemic. The assistance available is $500 per household paid directly to a vendor to cover the mortgage, rent, utilities, heating fuel, or boat moorage costs, invoice verification is required and must be submitted with the application. This funding will also assist with those experiencing homelessness with temporary shelter. There is a separate application for this type of assistance.
